Clouds are as natural to our lives as breathing. There are many different types of clouds from the literal to the figurative. They can
block our view, provide shade, represent a haze of emotion (dark cloud above us), reflect the weather, reference the climate, our
head can get lost in them (head in the clouds), the list goes on. This work starts with a simple foundation -the cloud like form- and
poses one question: what rises above the clouds?
Technically this piece is hollow coil built ceramic form. It pushes the boundaries of what the clay medium is capable of in terms of
scale and complexity of build. It is high fired to the orton cone equivalent 10. The work is outdoor stable. The glaze demonstrates
the fluidity of the material and creates truly unique colors where different oxides mix and mingle. There are also small metallic
flecks added to the surface that will oxidize over time to introduce subtle orange hues.
