Hi, my name is Rich Chamberlain. Thanks for stopping to look. This painting, purple, yellow, white, and blue, is named for the colors in it, because that's what it's about. This piece is a recent iteration in a multi year series called Contemplative Minimalism. Without reference to recognizable subject matter, you are invited to contemplate the interplay of color, form, and lines.
For example, what feeling, if any, does the broad field of purple evoke? How about its contrast with its yellow complement? Or its sharp angle in relation to the frame? Do the lines emphasize a rhythmic dance of forms? Or do they provide your eye a place to rest before plunging back into the colors? Much of my process is simply to stop and look.
I invite you to do the same.
