The potter’s wheel is a tool that I use to create forms that are then frequently altered through removing areas of clay to enhance movement and flowing lines. I use a variety of firing techniques but primarily fire in the soda kiln that I built. The soda ash and water solution sprayed into the kiln at high temperature is evident on the ceramic ware and creates a glaze sheen, directional markings from the spray, and raised orange peel-like surface.
In the series “stacked vessels”, these pieces rely on their interdependence. How we as people interface and interact with one another as well as build upon and grow from our interactions are ideas that inform my work.
