My name is Sue Oehme, pronounced "Oh, me". This piece, titled Move the Needle, is a unique monoprint created from layering numerous small plates and stencils, inked with oil-based inks or watercolors, and printed in 3 runs through a huge etching press. After the printing was completed, there was extensive hand embellishment with colored pencils and paints. In the image, I am deliberately juxtaposing disparate elements, to have the clash between structure and randomness, chaos and calmness. The title refers to the phrase 'move the goal-posts. '.. as it seems so often the stakes keep changing. I also like the idea of a phonograph needle being dropped by chance to a specific spot on an album.
