Hi. My name is Steven Steele, and I’m a native Coloradan, creating art for more than 50 years now. I come from a family of artists. My grandfather was an architect who at one point in time worked as a draftsman in the office of Louis Sullivan, and worked next to Frank Lloyd Wright. His son, my dad, Phil Steele, was a figure artist and anatomist and founder of Rocky Mountain School of Art in Denver. Our family had seven kids, and five of the seven of us studied art. Each Steele family member’s artwork is distinctly different from the others.
The work you are viewing is called “Objects Delight”. It is constructed using mixed media- a light pad, theater gels, wood, spray paint and Plexiglas. The title really says it all- it’s about the feeling the spectator gets when viewing the work, delightful in the whimsical, interesting and strange images of many different objects, forms and colors. My creative process is intuitive, and my work rarely completes itself according to my original vision. I believe that the piece I am working on must tell me what it needs. Only then can it come to fruition.
