Hi, I’m Gary Manuel. Being a sculptor in a studio back in the 70’s and 80’s in New Orleans, I was exposed to many types of ideas and materials, including but not limited to, wood, metal, found materials, paint and natural finishes. In order to make a living in New Orleans to support a family, I became a custom cabinet maker and shop owner and in 2010, 5 years after Katrina moved to Denver and back to art. My work in Denver dealt with wood and metal, mostly wall relief, pedestal and freestanding wood construction pushing the concept of repetition and angles. I have always been a fan of outdoor sculpture, which allows the viewer to experience art beyond the gallery. The piece in this show,” Three Angles” I call a transition piece because it took me beyond the indoor works. The sculpture has the feel of metal panels, but not the cost or weight of steel. This move to outdoor work has been successful, because it has led to showing pieces in outdoor public venues and sales.
