Hello, I am Mami Yamamoto and I am the creator of this print.
This type of print is called a Monoprint and it means a one of a kind print. I use plexiglass as a printing plate and apply oil base etching ink to create motifs and designs on the plate.
Normally inks are rolled on the plate in a very thin layer, one color at a time, and I manipulate the surface texture by using Q-tips, sharpened disposable chopsticks, plastic forks, linen cloths, and so forth.
Additionally, I use stencils to apply shapes and some of the “drawing” like motifs you see on this print were created using etched stencils.
I mix inks to create my own colors as they are also a very important element of my work.
The multiple printing layers are applied with registration to complete the work.
This print was created during this pandemic. I was trying to stay focused and positive in the studio during the time I was given. So the title of the work is a reflection of my mind set at the time.
Thank you so much for viewing my print.
