Hello, my name is Gayle Gerson. I am an artist who lives in Grand Junction, Colorado and I am so happy that my landscape, Golden Hour, has been included in the 2022 Art of the State exhibition.
I began this layered collage piece in a summer workshop I taught at the Western Colorado Center for the Arts. I wanted to demonstrate layers two ways: in depth of images and in dimension in the landscape. This piece includes many pieces of paper ephemera that you might recognize. My inspiration was a Tuscan scene. However, as I tell my students, you have to be careful what you look at because it is bound to come out in your art. I look at the silhouette of the Grand Mesa everyday and, sure enough, there it is in the distant ridges of this fantasy landscape. Thank you for allowing me to share my art with you.
