My name is Jody Guralnick, my painting is called Hydnum Imbricatum.
That is the name of a fungus with a toothed underside - Hydnum Imbricatum- it's also called a Hawks Wing or Scaly Urchin, and I painted some aspect of that mushroom in the painting.
The black beads in the painting are Anabaena, which is an algae that looks like a string of black beads under the microscope.
A variety of voices are woven in and out of the picture plain ; lichen and fungal networks, fruits, flowers, so many different lives springing forth.
I like to think of the vast web of mycelium that ties together the world continuing to send up these beautiful structures, loaded with spores, ready to repopulate.
