My name is Nathan Dominik.
I am a sculptural artist whose work reflects the idea of progression. Often I use repetition as a steady beat behind the work. At the same time, the repeated pieces of the work progress in size like a pulsating sound wave or ripples emenating from an object dropped in a pool of water. My personal process deals with simple ideas which come from inner, sometimes random thoughts, rather than deep concepts. I visualize the present and future in positive, lively moments, even during the seemingly hard and desperate times. So whether I am designing an abstract ceramic piece, or laminating wood into broad even curves, welding a steel sculpture, or carving a block of wood, I try to create art that is appealing to all, even though that is not always possible. The piece I have in the art of the state exhibition is entiled "Growing." It is made from babinga, limba black, and has a quartz base. I came up with the title early on in the sketch phase. I knew I wanted to create a scuplture that took on the feel of some sort of growing plant or organism. I think I accomplished my goal. Thank you very much.
