Hi, my name is Roger Reutimann. I am a Swiss-American sculptor living and working in Boulder. With my sculptures I am taking on a critical world view of social, political, and cultural topics.
You are standing in front of my sculpture called “Cyber Droppings”. It is a playful commentary on a serious matter about the spread of misinformation, lies and conspiracies through social media. We are in a truth crisis. Social media users are depending on their Facebook and Twitter feeds for news. Lies spread faster on social media than truth does. When we see inaccuracies repeated by politicians, the lies eventually become the truth. Truth has become a partisan issue, and it’s largely the fault of social media companies.
In my sculpture the concrete corbel is a symbol of our principals or fundamentals for honesty and trustworthiness. The Twitter birds are happily gossiping on the “Social Media Platform” and consequently tarnish the credibility of reliable news sources and therefor truth itself.
