Horseshoe Bend, where this image was taken, is a sight to behold. It’s an incredible 270 degree bend in the Colorado River flanked by towering sandstone cliffs that rise 1,000 feet above. The breadth of the view is hard to comprehend, not unlike the Grand Canyon, which starts just downriver from Horseshoe Bend.
The main overlook faces west, making it ideal for sunset photography. I captured this image just after sunset in May of 2022. If you look closely at the inside bank of the river, you’ll see rafts and campers pitching their tents for the night. The tiny orange glows you see are their campfires.
