During a huge winter swell in December of 2020, I was photographing several big wave surfers just north of Manhattan Beach when this large, approaching wave caught my eye. Just as the wave started to break, the backwash from the previous wave collided with it. Within an instant, the curl thickened dramatically as it thrusted forward and the top of the wave exploded skyward. I felt lucky to capture it.
This is a special image for me. It motivated me to begin my fine art photography so that I could share the amazing and beautiful things that I was witnessing.
