I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a sucker for a good sunset. Throughout the late fall and winter, when Southern California gets most of its rain, I’m always scouting the weather and conditions at the end of the day in case the elements of a great sunset might come together.
While watching a golden yellow sun slip below the horizon on a blue sky summer day is pretty great, it’s clouds that can make a sunset really great. As the saying goes, ‘Be careful what you wish for.’ Clouds, if too low on the horizon, can block the sun rays from casting its beautiful light during and after a sunset. On the night of this shot, there was a mostly clear horizon and just enough high clouds in the sky to reveal a rainbow of warm colors above the Venice Beach pier.
