In Spring during a good bloom, the poppies in the area around the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve are almost unbelievable. Carpets of orange undulate from beneath your feet, stretching out in all directions. In the spring of 2023, I made several trips to this area to photograph.
On this particular morning in early April, I arrived at dawn to give myself enough time to scout out a promising location, careful to look out for rattlesnakes (which I have encountered out there). I finally located an attractive bunch of poppies. To compose my shot, I laid down on the ground and even laid my camera on the ground, then waited for the sun to move into position.
