By April of 2024, Los Angeles had received more rain than San Fransisco and even more than Seattle. Because rain means clouds, and clouds sometime create really colorful sunsets, I found myself on the beach for weeks on end.
In mid March, showers were moving through the South Bay, so I was, of course, at the beach. Thirty minutes before sunset a large bank of gray clouds sat low on the horizon. This was definitely a boom or bust situation. If the sun fell behind the clouds, there won’t be much to write home about, but if the horizon was clear enough to let some warm rays of light through, it might ignite the sky. Just as the sun hit the horizon, enough light spilled through to make the low clouds glow a ruby red. And for just a few minutes, the sun rays were able to escape and reach all the way up to the clouds above, illuminating the undersides in shades of pink.
