This is the companion piece to Windswept and I encourage you to listen to that audio track for more about White Sands National Park. Beside the endless and intricate patterns of wind blown sand, the equally astonishing characteristic of the dunes are their colors. It seems strange, I know, if everything is white, how can it look so colorful? The white gypsum partially takes on the faint coloring of the sky above it. Bright white in the middle of the day with the sun overhead, but anything but white in the early morning and late evening. Also influencing the color is the amount of shadow. I had a lot of fun abstracting the dunes into interesting shapes and colors to create a different experience.
