Quittin' Time

It’s easy to take lifeguards for granted, until you or one of your friends needs help. The Los Angeles County Lifeguards conducted nearly 6,000 ocean rescues in 2023. They literally put their own lives on the line to save somebody else. With all of the time, I’ve spent on the beach, I’ve witnessed numerous rescues. Pretty scary when you realize that the person being rescued may have died if not for the heroics of the lifeguard. Sure, they are some perks of the job - working barefoot at the beach, an occasional surf session, and watching the sun set at the end of your shift. But just remember - they’re saving lives all of the time.
