My Hermosa Beach friends are always asking for more photos of Hermosa, so when I saw the elements of a potentially interesting sunset starting to develop, I headed straight to the Hermosa Beach Pier. It was an incredibly clear November day with Catalina easily visible on the horizon. But before sunset, the sky was nearly colorless. Like so many sunsets that I’ve photographed, you never know if it’s going to be boom or bust, so I waited patiently.
Not liking the cloud formations to the north of the pier, I walked to the north side to point my camera toward the south. There were some interesting pinwheel-like wisps of clouds high in the sky. “If only those clouds lit up,” I said to myself. As the sun started to drop below the horizon, the sky finally started to illuminate in pinks, oranges and yellows.
