Alice Bemis Taylor was a visionary leader in arts and social programs in Colorado Springs. She broke new ground as the first female trustee of Colorado College and was an extraordinarily generous benefactor to the community and the college. Her endowment, which continues to generate nearly $1 million annually, is a testament to her legacy. Taylor founded the Colorado Springs Day Nursery and the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, insisting on hiring renowned architects to design landmark buildings that still serve their original purposes. She also endowed the maternity ward at Glockner Hospital (now Common Spirit Penrose) and donated the Taylor organ to Grace and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in honor of her husband, Frederick Morgan Taylor.
