Colorado College was originally founded under the auspices of the Congregational Church, with close connections between local ministers and teachers and students at CC. In fact, the first two ministers of the church, Reverend Jonathan Edwards and Reverend James Dougherty, also held teaching positions at the college, while Professor Haskell, the Moderator of the Congregational Association served as the first financial agent for the college. Students attended daily worship sessions in Cutler Hall and later Perkins Hall while joining Sunday services at the First Congregational Church. In 1907, Colorado College amended its charter to become a nonsectarian institution.
