Colorado College Political Science Professor Dr. Edith Bramhall was a legend on campus and a groundbreaking politician in Colorado Springs. Dr. Bramhall was the first woman to serve on the Colorado Springs City Council, first elected in 1929 and serving until 1935. During her tenure on City Council, Bramhall fought to protect city-owned public utilities from private ownership. To this day, the top prize for graduating majors of Political Science at CC is named the Bramhall Award. Current Council Member Yolanda Avila, long-time community advocate and champion of Southeast Colorado Springs is a graduate of Colorado College.
