Artist Bio:
Homare Ikeda was born on the small subtropical island of Yoron, near Okinawa, Japan, and now lives and works in Denver, Colorado. His colorful paintings blend abstract expressionist and neo-expressionist influences.
Notes on Process:
One of Denver’s preeminent abstract painters, Homare Ikeda worked with Oehme Graphics in 2014, accompanied by his artist wife, Mamiko, who also created a body of prints. This piece is one of Homare’s watercolor monotypes, which demonstrates his use of stencils as blocking elements that create “windows'' into the paper surface. The resulting white shapes appear to be the positive space in the composition of long, continuous watercolor brushstrokes.
He often embellished this series of monotypes with tiny, nearly hidden intricate drawings. Ikeda’s work is represented in Denver by Havu Gallery.
