Notes on Process:
Based in LA, but originally from Argentina, and trained in St. Louise and Boston, Julia Fernandez-Pol is a multi-faceted artist, working in two and three dimensional media. The pieces here are from two different print projects, and were enhanced in the second session. The large monoprint is created from freshly inked and “ghost” plates, which were meticulously diagrammed, inked and laid on the press to be printed in multiple layers. The smaller 3-dimensional pieces are from a new series of works where the artist incorporates many bits of cut up prints, building little conglomerations and gluing them together, using shattered “glassbergs” as platforms. Ever inquisitive and experimental, Julia is a prolific painter and uses ideas in her studio to transfer to the print process.
