Artist Bio:
Katherine Bradford is a painter based in New York City. She is known for her richly colorful figurative paintings which often feature swimmers, boats, and figures.
Notes on Process:
The seven editions housed in Steamboat Suite, 2013 by Katherine Bradford, were each developed directly from a watercolor monotype of the same title. Once Kathy had created the monotypes, we set about to “deconstruct” them and figure out how many plates and colors were needed for each image. Simple cartoons are drawn to emphasize what parts of the image need to be drawn on which plate. The most famous image in the suite, Bathers, was created immediately after Kathy visited the Strawberry Park Hot Springs late one evening, and witnessed 2 people emerging from the mist in the dark.
