Artist Bio:
Louise Fishman was a prolific artist known for her abstract expressionist paintings. She lived and worked in New York City until her death in 2021.
Notes on Process:
Sue Oehme and Louise Fishman collaborated on numerous print projects between 2003 (at Riverhouse Editions) up until her untimely death in 2021. These watercolor monotypes were part of a very prolific series from 2011, titled Homage to the Mountains, where she created more than 150 small prints in about 10 days. Louise was not afraid to experiment, and, from this, many new techniques were discovered and honed at the studio. These all utilize watercolor and watercolor pencils for the mark-making, but were drawn/painted onto various substrates to achieve complex textures: gritty, washy, smooth, solid, thin, torn, rubbed. Louise was the consummate abstract painter; able to capture the most subtle and delicate feeling with very simple means, or in contrast, deep, dark starkly bold marks.
She was a force in the art world, generous and giving of her soul.
