Welcome to the Overton Drug store exhibit. This was a popular spot during the East Texas Oil Boom in the 1930s. People of all ages would gather here to socialize and buy medicines, tobacco products, and other items. In the back of the store, you can see an example of a pharmacy from that time period. They even carried a medicine called Bosworth's Infallible Nervine, believed to cure many illnesses.
You can also check out the Wurlitzer jukebox from 1930, which is playing songs from that era. People used to smoke a lot more in the 1930s, and you can see examples of best-selling cigars, pipes, and cigarettes in the tobacco display. If you look inside the cabinet, you can see tools called tobacco cutters that were used to prepare the tobacco.
The pharmacist at this store was E.E. Crain, and there's a photograph of his store in Longview at the top of the steps that lead to his private quarters. It's important to note that many towns had more than one drugstore during the oil boom.
