Boomtown Movie Theater:
Welcome to the theater! We are glad to see you at your designated movie time!!
Movies have been around for a long time. In 1890, Thomas Edison and his assistant, William Dickerson, made the first motion-picture camera. By the early 1930s, new technology made it possible to add sound to movies, which became very popular. During the Great Depression, many people went to the movies to escape their daily struggles.
To promote movies, producers would make posters, lobby cards, and production still photographs. You can see some posters from 1931 in the theater lobby. Movie posters are large images that have the title, characters, and actors' names on them. Lobby cards are smaller and show different scenes from the movie. They are usually sent to theaters before a new movie comes out. Production still photographs are images of a scene in the movie, but they don't have the actors' names on them.
In the theater, you can also see a Simplex carbon arc projector, which is the type of projector that was used in 1930. Now it's time to head in, find a seat, and enjoy the movie. Don't forget that the show isn't over until the lights come back on.
Once the movie is over, please return to the stop you were at before your scheduled movie time and continue your visit from there.
