The Guaranty State Bank exhibit is a great place to learn about the history of banking. During the oil boom, the banker was very important in the community. They were often trusted with a lot of information about people's finances and would give advice and loans to help businesses grow.
The exhibit tells the story of real people from Kilgore who were involved in the banking industry during the boom times. These people helped shape the town and make it a strong and stable place.
Inside the exhibit, you can see a black walk-in vault used in the Pine Hill State Bank in the early 1900s. There is also a cannonball safe that was used to keep money and valuables safe. These safes were made from the late 1800s to 1920s and were very hard to break into. They got their name because they looked like a cannonball on a pedestal.
Other interesting things to see in the exhibit include brass teller cages, a dictaphone and transcriber posting machine, and a money-changing machine. You can also read about Mrs. Everett, the Bank President of the First State Bank of Gladewater, Texas.
