Boomtown Street, Lineman Buddy, and Kilgore Oilfield Supply

Boomtown, USA illustrates the impact of the worldwide depression that began in 1929. The exhibit shows a family that has packed their belongings in a wagon and come to the oil boom to find a fresh start after losing their farm due to the Dust Bowl. The town is depicted as being full of excitement and opportunity for those willing to work. There are new shops opening up and the town is depicted as being full of activity. Buddy, a lineman, is depicted working on a power pole, and there is an oilfield supply store at the base of the pole. Many of these stores existed in East Texas during the oil boom, and some remain in operation today. The exhibit shows equipment and patents in the store windows.
