Outside the Pistol Hill Gas Station

As you look in the front window, you will see many pictures of oil well fires. Oil field work was very dangerous in the past because of the risk of accidents and fires. Next to the window, you will see an old-fashioned cold drink box. It was once located outside a gas station in Henderson, Texas, and it used blocks of ice to keep drinks cool. You can also see a cold water fountain on the side that was cooled by the ice.

Take a look at the gasoline pumps; these are called visible gas pumps. Gasoline flows through a hose and to the car's gas tank by gravity. The car here is a 1930 Model A Ford Sedan. Note that the gas tank is located on the hood.
