Gusher Gazette Newspaper Office

Welcome to the Gusher Gazette Newspaper office. Here you will learn about the history of how the news of the East Texas Oil Boom was reported. The first story about the discovery of oil in East Texas was written by Garland A. Farmer, the publisher of the Henderson Times, on the old typewriter on the desk. The type was set on the Linotype machine, and the paper was printed on the old Babcock press in the back of the room. You can see an original front page of the paper on display at the front of the wall rack of papers. Mr. Farmer also wrote for the Dallas Morning News and was paid as a correspondent when they used his work.

Each student will receive a copy of the Gusher Gazette when leaving the museum.  No need to pick one up here. It's a great read with lots of history about the East Texas Oil Boom!
