The statue on display is 8 feet tall and weighs about 1500 pounds. It was created by Mr. and Mrs. Alex Ettie of New York. The statue is of Mr. Hunt, who was important in the development of the East Texas Oil Field and owned a large independent company in the field. The Hunt Production Company offices from the 1930s in Wright City, Texas.

The museum building was donated by the Placid Oil Company, which was one of Mr. Hunt's businesses, and the contents of the museum were largely donated by citizens of East Texas. The statue is positioned in the museum so that it greets all visitors.
