At the end of Saint Mihiel Road you will find Elliott’s Beach. This pleasant site on the banks of the Broad River has a long history. Native Americans once inhabited this land, as did later peoples including the namesake of this park, the Elliott family. Over the years, Parris Island was home to cattle, citrus crops, indigo, and finally, sea island cotton, the cultivation of which cleared most of the island of trees. There was a plantation house, slave quarters, and Freedmen housesites. Since then, the Marine Corps has used the beach for training and recreational activities.
