The two light blue homes on your right (with arguably the best view on the island) were built in 1918. Their construction was authorized by the National Defense Act of 1916, which provided for a five-year expansion for World War I. Over the next few years, Parris Island underwent a construction boom, building barracks and administrative structures to support the influx of recruits coming to the island. Many of the World War I era buildings were torn down. These quarters were originally one building and served as bachelor officers’ quarters. They were separated in 1934 and today they house officers’ families.
Turn right on Panama Street. As you cross Cuba Street, the former site of Building 102 is on your left.
