When you reach the intersection of Santo Domingo Street and Boulevard de France, look left and right. On your left is Memorial Park and a statue of Molly Marine, dedicated to the service of all Women Marines. The original was commissioned during World War II by a Women’s Reserve recruiter in New Orleans. The park is also home to various other memorials to significant groups. On the right is Iron Mike, this tour’s namesake, which was designed by Robert Ingersoll Aitken and is dedicated to the Parris Island Marines who gave their lives in World War I. It is officially known as the “Monument to U.S. Marines.” Behind the statue is a monument in memory of 1st Lieutenant Roger Blood, dedicated to all Parris Island Marines who died in World War II.
Continue straight down Santo Domingo Street. Look for the Brig & Brew on your right.
