In the area bounded by Chosin Reservoir Road and Cuba Street is the former Women’s Reserve Area, built during World War II to house Women Marines stationed on Parris Island. In 1949, following the integration of women into the regular Marine Corps, recruit training for enlisted women was moved to Parris Island. These buildings were used until 1975, when the current structure that housed the 4th Recruit Training Battalion was constructed. Two structures remain, Buildings 903 and 911.
If you wish to dine at Traditions, turn left on China Hutung. Traditions, once located near the Dry Dock, was converted into an officer’s club in the 1920s and moved to its present location overlooking the Marina, Ballast Creek and the Beaufort River. Continue down Cuba Street. The 1919 Flying Field is on your left.
