Turning on to Nicaragua Street, the Depot Pier is on your left. Prior to the completion of the causeway spanning Archer’s Creek in 1929, which you crossed on your entrance to the Depot just before the front gate, Parris Island was only accessible via boat. Recruits and personnel arrived at the train station in the town of Port Royal, and from there, crossed the Beaufort River to begin their training. This method of transportation was used until 1942. Boats coming to Parris Island have to navigate through treacherous currents and tide differential as much as eleven feet between high and low tides.
Continue down Nicaragua Street. On your right are two homes, Buildings 66 and 67.
