Building 111, originally known as the War Memorial Building, housed administrative and recreational activities until it was converted into a museum in 1974 by order of Commanding General Robert Barrow. The names inscribed in cast stone around the perimeter of the building are major battles in which the Marine Corps was involved since its founding in 1775 through Vietnam. Before getting started on your tour, stop by the Parris Island Museum and learn more about the history of the Depot. The museum has exhibits on Marine Corps history, local Beaufort area military history, Parris Island history, and modern recruit training. Make sure to watch the film on recruit training in the theater! When you’re finished at the museum, hop in your car and we’ll get started.
Turn right out of the Museum parking lot (either side) and drive two blocks to the four-way stop sign. Before reaching the stop sign, you will pass two World War II-era buildings on the right, the Depot Chapel, and an Administration Building. Make a left at the stop sign onto Santo Domingo Street.
