Tyler Aiello: Dreissena Series

Hi, my name is Tyler Aiello, my sculpture blends my interest in science and the natural world with a love of process and media. I enjoy working with industrial materials to produce contemporary sculpture that references old-world craftsmanship. For inspiration, I draw from a variety of sources including microbiology, botany and chemistry – often incorporating mathematics.

The piece on view at the Arvada Center is inspired by Zebra Mussels, and invasive species affecting many Western lakes and rivers. The pieces are large-scale interpretations of the biomorphic forms created with steel and bronze. As a native Coloradan, I’m deeply concerned about the environment and natural world. These pieces are part of a larger series drawing attention to the ecological concerns affecting our state and western natural spaces.
