Barbara Baer: Four Rivers

Welcome.  My name is Barbara Baer, and my sculpture is titled Four Rivers.

The first river water was brought to me by my son Kevin -- who's my "Family Ties" exhibiting partner -- when he moved here from New Orleans.  The other jars accumulated on travels to Kansas City, to Grand Junction, and downtown to Confluence Park.

My river water collection provides both subject matter and structural weight --- to securely anchor the extended lengths of fabric.

Organza, more common as a material for wedding veils, forms the billowing lengths.  Because it's translucent, the painted color shifts as your viewing point shifts.

The work tries to capture not directly how a river looks, but more how a river feels.
