Loja, as a young woman in Finland, had learned to design and create textiles such as carpets, weavings and anything in fabric. However, Loja, the sister of Herman Gesellius, Eliel’s architectural partner, was a gold metal winning sculptor, trained in Paris, who gave up her career to work with her husband on his many projects in Finland and the U. S.
Here are some examples of Loja's other accomplishments:
Curtain design, Saarinen House Museum, 1928
Carpet, couch, chair fabric & wall hanging, Saarinen House, 1928
Loja’s gown, sewn by Loja, date unknown
Loja’s gown 2, sewn by Loja, 1939
Tapestry Plan of Cranbrook designed by Loja, 1929
(Loja is pronounced LOY.a)
