Robert Gray: 20-13, 25-05, 25-04

Hi, I’m Robert Gray. I’ve been a Woodturning artist for over 50 years. My process starts with a chainsaw as I collect windfall Aspen from the forest near my studio in Buena Vista Colorado. I create a rough shape on my lathe and then I set these pieces aside for a year or more to dry.  The survivors of this drying process are then turned to a delicate thin wall vessel.  I try to break away from the symmetry of the lathe with unique hand carved openings. Next step is a lot of sanding followed with multiple coats of polyurethane. Each piece is then signed and numbered. I’m really honored to be selected for this show with my daughter and I hope you enjoy viewing my art, thank you.
