Solitary Bees

Most bees you’ll find here live alone.

Solitary bees nest in the ground and gather pollen for their young. Some solitary bees are specialists, relying on a single plant species. If the flowers don’t bloom, the bees may wait for years to emerge. This delicate timing links the life of the bee directly to the rhythm of the vernal pool landscape.

Though small and often unseen, these bees are vital pollinators in this ecosystem.
