Plants of the Vernal Pools

Vernal pool plants are experts at timing.

Some grow quickly and bloom while water is still present. Others wait until the soil begins to dry. A few even have special features that allow them to breathe while underwater.

Many plants produce seeds fast, sometimes without pollinators, ensuring the next generation survives even if conditions change suddenly.

Every plant you see here is adapted to life on a tight schedule.
