Construction for 131 South Main Street occurred between 1850 and 1885, originally erected in the Greek Revival, now Italianate-Second Empire style. It's a two-story stone foundation building with a brick exterior. Architectural features include a Mansard roof with small doomers, substantial brackets under the lower overhanging eave, and drip molds over windows and door frames. Modifications include the shudders, the Colonial Revival, and the porch on the structure's left.
This was a dwelling built for Adam Ramsey Reese for a short time as the Grey Court Tea Room in the 1940s. Reese's grandfather, Jacob Reese, was one of the original purchasers of land in 1793 that became Phillipsburg.
