The prominent Elks Club Building was built in the 1920s. The architectural style does not fit into a specific category. However, elements of the construction appear derived from Tutor Precedents based on the combination of the accentuated white quoins and massive stone projections at the corner, similar to the Hampton Court in England.
Renovations are scheduled, with site plans that have been produced and approved by the town for the iconic five-floor 24,000-square-foot Elks building, with intentions to convert the property into 31 apartments with two retail spaces. Mayor Todd Tersigni said the Elks Building is one of the town’s “crown jewels,” and its renovation will jump-start the redevelopment of South Main Street.
