Walter Kuhlman (1918-2009) was one of Sausalito's most distinguished artists, recognized by museums, galleries and collectors. After WWII, he arrived in San Francisco and became part of what is considered the golden age of the San Francisco Art Institute. He taught with Frank Lobdell, David Park, Clyfford Still and Richard Diebenkorn, artists who would define Bay Area art to the larger world as they explored a west coast version of Abstract Expressionism.
