Danny’s Café

STOP 5: 600 DIXIE HIGHWAY

Danny’s Café

Our next stop is Danny’s Café at 600 Dixie Highway.

You can park in the angled parking near the building and continue listening.

Danny’s has a long history.

The building was once a livery stable, and you can still see that history reflected in the mural of horses painted by Dean Davis on the side of the building.

It was also once home to the Rossford Shoe Store.

Then, in 1934, Mike Knurek opened what became known as Mike’s Café.

The bar stayed open into the early morning hours and became especially well known for its Friday fish fries—a popular tradition in Rossford’s large Catholic community.

In 1960, Mike turned the business over to his son, Danny.

That’s when it became Danny’s Café.

Danny’s wife, Mary, ran the kitchen. She was known for her soups and sandwiches, while Danny, a gentle giant of a man, tended the bar.

The family even lived in a small apartment next to the bar.

For nearly 30 years, Danny’s became a fixture in Rossford.

Danny and Mary sold the business in 1989, but the name stayed.

Then, in 2022, local business owner Brad Morrison purchased Danny’s and began transforming the space while bringing back pieces of Rossford’s past.

It includes a stage features flooring made from lanes salvaged from the former Rossford Lanes.

Surrounding the stage is a collection of 30 bowling balls donated by Rossford bowlers.

One wall recreates the look of the former Frautschi Brothers Hardware Store.

Upstairs, you’ll find the Ford Social Room, which can accommodate gatherings of up to 100 people.

Old photographs of Rossford decorate the dining tables, and photographs of former local businesses adorn the bar.

Danny’s has now grown to 6,000 square feet, including a covered outdoor patio.

It’s a restaurant, a gathering place—and a little piece of Rossford history.
