STOP 9: 720 SUPERIOR STREET
Rossford Public Library
Just down the road, you’ll find the Rossford Public Library at 720 Superior Street.
Parking is available behind the library.
The library has been part of Rossford since 1936.
Its first home was a one-room store building on Superior Street.
The current library was built in 1950, with funding from Libbey Owens Ford and community fundraisers.
Then, in the mid-2000s, the library underwent a major expansion.
Inside, you’ll find a large mural celebrating Rossford’s history, including former businesses, local people and the city’s founders, Edward Ford and his wife, Carrie Ross.
And there’s another unusual piece of history waiting inside.
Look for the size 37 shoe worn by Robert Wadlow, who stood an astonishing 8 feet, 11 inches tall and was known as the world’s tallest man.
Wadlow lived on Selkirk Street in Ross Township and reportedly shopped in downtown Rossford.
So even the library has a few surprising stories to tell.
